Ingredients

  • 3 pounds baking potatoes, such as russet or Yukon gold, peeled and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 14-ounce cans low sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese
